Providing meaningful access to health care for every Marylander is a complex and monumental challenge, but it is a realistic and attainable opportunity if we commit to the process now.

CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield helped develop Senate Bill 515/House Bill 860, the Healthy Maryland Plan.

Healthy Maryland will not magically solve every flaw in the U.S. health care system, but it does provide an unprecedented opportunity for Maryland to take center stage in President Obama's vision for health care reform.

Understanding that our present economy is not ideal for expanding the state's budget or unwisely allocating federal subsidy, it is important to note that Healthy Maryland is budget-neutral. It reorganizes existing state health programs and does not call for increased taxes. It's success can serve as a model for state-by-state reform throughout the country.
